Two Tequesta Explored:

It was 1896 when Henry Flagler had a 9-foot deep channel dug from the mouth of the Miami River which would eventually create what we know as Brickell Key. In 1943, an investor, Edward N. Claughton, Sr. acquired the land and created a 44-acre triangle-shaped tract separated from the mansions of Miami's fashionable Brickell Avenue by only a few hundred feet of water. In the late 1970's, Swire Properties purchased most of the island property from the Claughtons, and began to transform it into the Brickell Key we know today .
